Awareness and conversion: two sides of event marketing

Awareness and conversion: two sides of event marketing

In the music events industry a common mistake keeps repeating: confusing visibility with sales. An artist posting a video that reaches hundreds of thousands of views doesn’t necessarily mean that impact turns into tickets sold.

What actually happens is more subtle. Viral content from the artist isn’t the purchase itself, but the trigger of a psychological process: it activates search intent. From that moment, people start asking in WhatsApp groups, checking the club’s calendar, typing into Google or visiting ticketing platforms. Hype turns into curiosity, and curiosity into an opportunity.

However, between intent and action there’s a gap. That’s where paid media comes in. Well-designed digital campaigns guide that scattered attention towards a clear goal: conversion. Remarketing, tailored creatives, partnership ads with the artist and dynamic targeting are the tools that turn a like into an actual purchase.

Event marketing, then, works like a relay. The artist lights the fuse of desire with their visibility. The organiser, through performance marketing, collects that energy and channels it into ticketing. When both work in sync, a multiplier effect occurs: social hype feeds the digital funnel, and the digital funnel turns that demand into tickets sold.

When this coordination doesn’t exist, the result is frustrating: viral posts that generate conversation but leave no trace at the box office. The perception of success stays in vanity metrics, with no real impact on revenue.

In conclusion, awareness and conversion aren’t opposites, but complementary stages of the same journey. The first excites, the second materialises. The real challenge for clubs and promoters isn’t choosing between virality or performance, but designing strategies where each reinforces the other. Because ultimately, likes create echo, but it’s tickets that fill the dance floor.
